A stage in everyone’s spiritual journey is when you grow weary of anything superficially “spiritual.” Instead of allowing your mind to react or judge, simply practice the ageless tool of discrimination called “neti neti.” This is a Sanskrit phrase that means “not this, not that.” It is a reminder that whenever you perceive God through your mind or senses, you are merely perceiving a temporal mental projection. God is in everything you see, not what you see. God is beyond name, form, senses, and intellect. When you narrow your focus to thinking God is one particular thing perceived through the senses or intellect, you also wonder where happiness is hiding. If you want to get closer to the Whole, you must silence your mind and invert your attention into the Center, the sacred Heart. Thus, when someone tells you that God is in a book, silently say to yourself, “neti neti” and empty your mind. If you think that you have found heaven in a chocolate bar, silently repeat “neti neti” to calm your mind and take your attention beyond the senses. If you prefer, use the English translation of “not this, not that” or “God is not this. God is not that.” Another underlying premise of “neti neti” is that the Absolute can never be spoken of in the affirmative because, no matter how hard you try, thoughts limit the Limitless. The finger pointing to the moon is not the moon. The mind will only know peace when it is quiet and nourished by the Heart—its Source of power. When it seeks pleasure through the senses, it becomes more agitated because the senses are a lower vibration than the mind. The mind is always grasping, desiring, hoping, seeking, and projecting. God is not to be found on this page. Meditation: Your Own Natural Way Reflect on the transforming qualities of increased awareness; see how being just one percent more awake each day has powerful accumulative effects. Take one day at a time and be gentle with yourself. Nurture yourself like a helpless babe. Use “neti neti” in meditation every time your mind latches onto an illusion or technique foreign to your own natural Way. This “neti” attitude is calming because it does not give the mind more things to ponder. It takes the mind into sacred Silence.Do not be confused by the number or variety of techniques on this website. They are all subtle variations of your own natural Way—free of effort. By experimenting with subtle variations, you expand neural networks—and open the imagination. This alchemical process sometimes seems to be quick; other times imperceptibly slow. Sometimes Grace must patiently wait for your ego to let go and let God. You will not discover Grace by more understanding, however, but by the kundalini awakening the higher chakras. This requires meditating everyday and remaining conscious most of the day and night. |
