Journal Writing  Email

If you feel as if you could spend days in bed, then you may have unprocessed dreams. Perhaps there is a message that is trying to awaken your struggling, mortal mind. Perhaps you are physically exhausted. If you do not give time each day to listen to your subconscious, you will miss opportunities to heal yourself or find your sacred path.

Journal writing will help. Keep a pen and paper next to your bed and write what you feel when you immediately wake up. Do not interpret the images: Simply feel the images. The images may change, but the message (hidden within your feelings) will stay the same until you wake up to your inspired path.

Until you become clear about your new direction, keep writing everything that enters your slumbering mind. Later reread your journal entries and underline with a red pen key phrases and repeating themes. Keep the opposite side of the journal page free to summarize your interpretations, doodle, or illustrate your dreams. Do not interpret or add meaning to your original inspirations (feelings coming from the dream). If the message is a simple one, recognize that and act on its wisdom.

Once you become clear about the essence of the dream message, your mind will remain calm and your attention will move inwards to your sacred Center. At that moment, you will realize that the message is nothing more than an aspect of your Self that you have not yet understood.

Free Association

A useful technique for journal writing is free association of any image or feeling that you can remember from your dreams. Allow yourself to move from one key feeling, idea, or symbol to another. Simply write (in a stream of consciousness) what pops into your mind—without losing track of the original feeling of the dream. When the stream of pure feeling stops, objectively contemplate the word pictures that are emerging from your subconscious.

Do not censor any violent or bizarre image. See that there is a place and purpose behind all nature’s forces. Violence may represent change, rebirth, transformation, etc. It does not necessarily mean that you are a violent or angry person.

Free association is a basic creative skill. Simply allow your higher Self to guide your personality beyond the rigid structures of your conscious mind.
